# Usage of field notes
This guide explains how to navigate the Field Notes
Jump to ***"That's too much text for me!"***, for a **quick guide**.
I create *hub notes*, when I see clusters of information forming emerging from the various chain of topics I had while exploring something. Hub notes always start with **f0_**, with [[f0_Field notes hub]] being the collection for hub notes, this is probably the best entrypoint to explore the topics.
Each note name is preceded by an ID consisting of letters and numbers, which indicate how I was exploring a topic at the time of exploration. A letter indicates a breakout point ( a new "topic") and each number just counts up, pointing out a new addition to a specific topic that relates to its predecessor(s).
The pages [[Field note Example]] and [[Reference note example]] provide an overview on a notes structure.[^1]
The local graph on the right is a great way to explore notes connected to the current one. Click on <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="24" height="24" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" class="lucide lucide-arrow-up-right-icon lucide-arrow-up-right"><path d="M7 7h10v10"/><path d="M7 17 17 7"/></svg> to expand the local graph or on <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="24" height="24" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" class="lucide lucide-git-fork-icon lucide-git-fork"><circle cx="12" cy="18" r="3"/><circle cx="6" cy="6" r="3"/><circle cx="18" cy="6" r="3"/><path d="M18 9v2c0 .6-.4 1-1 1H7c-.6 0-1-.4-1-1V9"/><path d="M12 12v3"/></svg> to explore all contents visually. The pages open stacked to to the right.
To close a note, click the "X" on the bottom left of the active note.
### Quick guide
"***That's too much text for me***!"
Okay, here's the short form:
- ***"I want to explore a topic"*** - Click on on of the links starting with **f0_** in the left sidebar or graph. [[f0_Field notes hub]] is your best bet.
- ***"I want to find X"*** - I recommend using the search function to fuzzy-find.
- ***"What is a hub?"*** - A collection of notes that are fit into same realm.
- ***"Why these weird numbers?"*** - These alphanumeric ID's show the train of thought I had while exploring a topic and indicate a **direct** relation between notes.
- ***"I want to see the connections"*** - Use the local graph on the right, it can be expanded. Or explore the links at the bottom of a note.
- ***"How do I close a note?"*** - Click the "X" at the bottom left of a note.
[^1]: A *reference note* will result in a dead link, as they often contain information that cannot be publish due to various reasons. I still wanted to include them so readers can identify the source/origin of a specific field note. The example is included to provide an idea *how* I capture information and connect to it.
