# Meta-Reference Notes of the type **Reference** are used to store information on things I consume, possess or doing research on. They act as a "dummy" for the object or topic used to write things I find useful "on it" and connect related topics to it. The format of a reference note is not fixed, as the content of a reference note depends on what is referenced. The types of reference ("what is referenced") is set via the [[Meta-Data|metadata]]-field `about:`. Typical examples are: - Settings and basic information for devices in my household - Notes on tutorials, courses or learning material (think of them as [literature notes](https://writing.bobdoto.computer/what-is-a-literature-note/)) - Information about software I use - Recipes - Books - People A full list of available references is listed in the [[Meta-Categories types and entities|meta-note on note types]]. --- ## Related - **previous** [[Meta]] - **see** [[Meta-Data]] on how metadata is used - **see** [[Reference]] for the hub connecting all notes of the type reference - **see** [[types.base]] for the Base tracking all note-types ## Sources - **references** [writing.bobdoto.computer](https://writing.bobdoto.computer/what-is-a-literature-note/) for a primer on literature notes ## Usage - **used in** none --- ## Changelog - [[2026-06-07]]: Initial creation
