# Meta-Domains These 6 life domains are the main drivers behind everything I do. Every day, I set an expectation to fulfill each domain as best as I can: - [[Move]]: Keeping myself in shape — Physical activity, nutrition, health, ... - [[Rest]]: Restoration of energy — reading, watching a movie, meditation, ... - [[Create]]: Any creative output — writing, building, solving a problem, ... - [[Grow]]: Input-oriented activities — Learning, achieving goals, improving, ... - [[Connect]]: Social activities — in person, calls, or keeping in touch - [[Sustain]]: Life maintenance — finances, errands, general admin tasks, ... ## Using domains The domain-names serve as review prompts: - [[Move]]: *Did I **move** to stay healthy today?* - [[Rest]]: *Did I **rest** to restore energy today?* - [[Create]]: *Did I **create** something today?* - [[Grow]]: *Did I **grow** in an area of interest today?* - [[Connect]]: *Did I **connect** with someone today?* - [[Sustain]]: *Did I do something to **sustain** my life today?* Domain links belong on notes that represent activity in the specific domain —logs, daily notes or projects. Many other notes are general building blocks and don't require a domain link. A quick test is asking *"Does this note document my life, or document the world?"*: - *My Life:* It connects to a domain and a link is inserted - *The world:* It is not directly connected to a domain and no link is inserted The primary way of (re-)viewing these domains is the graph, as all linked notes will connect to a single node, making the distribution clearly visible. The life domains are also available as scores in the specific metadata of daily notes, allowing me to extract these and visualize them in other ways. These are checked every month to see if I am on track. ## Rating fulfillment of domains I use a [[Meta-Ratings|3-point scale]] and keep this deliberately simple, as many days only allow for a quick daily review. Each day write a single sentence summarizing the fulfillment of each domain. If it's easy to write, the score is high, if I have trouble summarizing the day, the score is low: - **0** - Domain was absent — nothing to report - **1** - Domain was touched — something happened - **2** - Domain was fulfilled — major effort on something --- ## Related - **previous** [[Meta]] - **see** [[1-metadata-general]] for the corresponding template - **see** [[Meta-Ratings]] for the rating system in use - **see** [[Move]] for notes related to the domain "Move" - **see** [[Rest]] for notes related to the domain "Rest" - **see** [[Create]] for notes related to the domain "Create" - **see** [[Grow]] for notes related to the domain "Grow" - **see** [[Connect]] for notes related to the domain "Connect" - **see** [[Sustain]] for notes related to the domain "Sustain" - **see** [[metrics.base]] for the actual metrics how I am doing - **see** [[domains.base]] for a collection of all notes grouped by domain ## Sources - **references** [Mike Shea's life minimal successful day](https://mikeshea.net/minimum_successful_day.html) as it sparked the initial idea for implementing something like this ## Usage - **used in** none --- ## Changelog - [[1900-01-01]]: Initial creation
