# Dragonbane character creation
A modified version of the checklist from *p.9* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]] to streamline character creation in [[Dragonbane]].
## 1 - Choose or roll your **kin**
See *p.9-13* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
**If rolled**, use the table on *p.9* (**d12**) and make note of it in the *Kin*-field of the character sheet.
The kin also provides:
- 1 or more **innate abilities**
Note them down in the *Abilities & Spells*-field of the character sheet.
## 2 - Choose or roll your **profession**
See *p.13-19* (professions) and *p.73-81* (gear details) of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
**Choose** one profession **or roll** on the table on *p.13* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]]. Make note of the following profession features:
- The **key attribute** (e.g. mark the *Attribute* with an underscore)
- **Gear** (roll or choose) and note them down into the *Inventory*, *Weapon/Shield*or *Armor*-field of the character sheet (lookup *p.73-81* for the gears' properties)
- 6 **trained skills** (pick from the available choices of your profession)
- 1 or more **heroic ability** (except for the mage). Note it into the *Abilities & Spells*-field of the character-sheet
>[!INFO]
> When choosing trained skill, only make a dot or note next to the *skills*-field of the character sheet for now — the final values will be determined in *step 7*. Alternatively, come back the profession page in *step 7*
### 2.1 **Mage** profession
See *p.19 (profession), p.57 (descriptions) and p.61-71 (spells)* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]] for details.
1. Choose a **school of magic**. This will be one of the **trained skills**. Note the school next to the profession in the character sheet
2. Choose **3 Rank 1 spells** from your school or general magic (only for newly created characters). Make note of them in the *Abilities & Spells*-field of the character sheet
3. Choose 3 Magic tricks (see *p.61* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]]) and add them into the *Abilities & Spells*-field of the character sheet
## 3 - Choose or roll your **age**
See *p.24* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
**Roll** on the age table and fill the age field on the character sheet.
Choose an additional **number of trained skills** based on your age. Mark them in your character sheet like done in *[[#2 - Choose or roll your **profession*|#2]]*.
Make the **attribute modifiers** (e.g. by writing *"+1"* below the respective *Attribute*-fields).
> [!INFO]
> Only mark the trained skills in addition to the 6 trained skills already provided by your profession (e.g. 6+2 for *Young*).
## 4 - Choose or roll your **name**
See *p.24* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
**Choose or roll** a name and/or an additional nickname from the tables on *p.10-13* (first name based on your kin) and *p.14-19* (nickname based on your profession).
You may also choose a name freely.
## 5 - Roll your **attributes**
See *p.24* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
For each attribute do the following:
1. **Roll 4d6** and drop the lowest
2. **Adjust the attribute** based on the modifiers from *[[#3 - Choose or roll your **age**|#3]]*, if desired
3. **Assign** the value **to an attribute** on your character sheet
After all attributes are assigned, you may once **swap** two attributes.
> [!TIP]
> Consider the following when assigning attributes:
>
> 1. Take your professions **key attribute** into account
> 2. Make sure you meet the **minimum strength requirements** for your weapons (see *p.74*)
> 3. They can never be higher then 18 (including any bonuses)
## 6 - Choose additional **trained skills**
In addition to the 6 trained skills from your profession, choose as many additional trained skills as indicated by your age (see *[[#3 - Choose or roll your **age**|#3]]*).
## 7 - Calculate **skills** ("derived ratings")
See *p.25* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
Based on the table *p.25*, determine the **movement** (base value from the kin, then modified by the Agility). Add the value to the *Movement*-field in the character sheet.
For *Strength (STR)* and *Agility (AGL)*, determine the **damage bonus** based on the table on *p.25* and write the value into the *Damage Bon. STR* and *Damage Bon. AGL*-fields on the character sheet.
Write your *Constitution (CON)* value into the *Hit Points*-field on the character sheet to set your maximum **hit points**.
> [!INFO]
> If you have the heroics ability **Robust**, the HP-value is modified (see *p.39*).
Write your *Willpower (WIL)* value into the *Willpower Points*-field on the character sheet to set your maximum **willpower points**.
To determine the base-chance of your **skills**, do the following for each attribute, one after each other:
1. Using the table on *p.25* lookup the **base chance**, which is based on the **attributes** determined in [[#5 - Roll your **attributes*|#5]]
2. **Double** the value, **if the skill is trained**
3. Note the (doubled) base chance in a **skills**-field assigned to the current attribute of the character sheet
> [!TIP]
> For new payers, it is always recommended to have a at least one **trained weapon skill**. Otherwise the character may not be able to do anything useful in combat.
## 8 - Note your **heroic ability**
See *p.35-39* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
Choose 1 heroic ability from the list and note it in a line of the *Abilties & Spells*-field of the character sheet.
> [!TIP]
> The following heroic abilities are recommended for new players / characters, as they greatly increase the groups chances during combat:
>
> - *Fast Footwork*
> - *Defensive*
> - *Guardian*
> - *Lighting Fast*
## 9 - Choose or roll your **weakness** (optional, but recommended)
See *p.26* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
**Roll or choose** (d20) one weakness and make note of it in the *Weakness*-field of the character sheet.
> [!TIP]
> Overcoming and/or roleplaying according to your weakness accelerates character advancement at the end of a session.
## 10 - Choose or roll your **memento** (optional, but recommended)
See *p.27* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
**Roll or choose** (d20) one and make note of it in the *Memento*-section of the character sheets inventory.
> [!TIP]
> A Memento can be used to **recover one additional condition** per stretch-rest. It can be replaced at the end of a session if lost.
## 11 - Choose or roll your **appearance** (optional)
See *p.28-29* of the [[Dragonbane Rulebook]].
Describe the looks of your character in the *Appearance*-field of the character sheet. Additionally, the table on *p.29* provides can be rolled for inspiration.
